‘It’s a Given’ That 007 Should Be British, Says GoldenEye Star
Pierce Brosnan has firmly stated that the next James Bond should not be American, emphasizing that it is a fundamental requirement for the iconic British spy. His remarks come in response to speculation that an American actor could take over the role following Amazon’s acquisition of the James Bond franchise.
The former 007 star, who played Bond from 1995 to 2002, also expressed his concerns over Amazon’s takeover. He acknowledged that while long-time franchise custodians Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson had made a bold decision in handing creative control to the US company, he “lamented” the change.
Concerns Over the Future of Bond -Next James Bond
Broccoli and Wilson, half-siblings who inherited control of the franchise from their father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, in 1995, have overseen Bond’s cinematic legacy for over three decades. However, with Amazon now involved, Brosnan is uncertain about the future direction of the beloved spy character.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Brosnan said:
“In this world that is moving so fast now, at the speed of light, [the takeover] does come with a certain lament.”
Despite his concerns, he acknowledged that the decision to hand over creative control was not made lightly:
“It takes great courage for them to let go. They will still have a say in matters. I hope that [Amazon] handles the work and the character with dignity and imagination and respect.”
While the future of Bond remains uncertain, Brosnan took pride in his contribution to the franchise, particularly in reviving the character with GoldenEye after a six-year hiatus.

Who Will Be the Next Bond?
With Daniel Craig stepping down after No Time to Die, speculation is rampant about his successor. Among the frontrunners are:
- Andrew Garfield (British-American, known for Spider-Man)
- Oscar Isaac (American)
- Pedro Pascal (Chilean-American, known for The Last of Us)
- James Norton (British, known for Happy Valley)
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson (British, known for Kick-Ass)
Pedro Pascal, in particular, has gained immense popularity among Gen Z audiences for his roles in The Last of Us and Gladiator II, as well as his charming persona on social media.
Brosnan, however, remains firm in his stance that Bond should remain British, aligning with past comments from former Bond actor Timothy Dalton, who warned that Amazon’s involvement could dilute the character’s British identity.

Pierce Brosnan’s Artistic Pursuits – Next James Bond
Beyond Bond, Brosnan is currently making waves in the art world. The 71-year-old Irish actor is launching a new artistic collaboration featuring his line drawings on limited-edition porcelain vases.
Teaming up with German ceramicist Stefanie Hering, the collection—titled Mirage, Tryst, and Solitude—features artwork drawn from Brosnan’s So Many Dreams series, originally created as “phone call sketches” in Malibu over the years.
Speaking about his deep-rooted passion for art, Brosnan shared:
“I knew I wanted to be an artist, I wanted to live an artistic life, and never dreamt in a million years that I was going to be an actor.”
Supporting Charity Through Art
As part of his philanthropic efforts, Brosnan has donated a set of his vases to The King’s Trust, a charity founded by King Charles that has supported over a million disadvantaged young people in finding employment and training. -Next James Bond
The donated vases will be auctioned at a gala dinner at London’s V&A Museum, with proceeds going toward the charity’s mission.
“The work that the King’s Trust does for young men and women is absolutely phenomenal. If my participation and artwork can touch or change someone’s life, that’s great.”
