Washington, D.C.:
The United States Air Force has officially awarded Boeing the contract for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) Platform — leading to the creation of the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet, the F-47.
This next-generation aircraft will be equipped with cutting-edge stealth technology, advanced sensor fusion, long-range strike capabilities, and superior maneuverability — designed to dominate the skies for decades.
During a press briefing at the White House, former President Donald J. Trump proudly announced:
“Today, I’m thrilled to announce that America is moving forward with the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet, the F-47. Nothing else comes close — America’s enemies won’t even see it coming.”
The F-47 is set to surpass the capabilities of the current F-22 Raptor, the U.S. Air Force’s premier air superiority fighter. According to the Air Force, this aircraft is cheaper, has a longer range, and is even more stealthy.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth added-Unveils:
“The F-47 sends a clear message to our allies and enemies alike — the U.S. is here to stay, ready to project power anywhere, anytime. This historic investment revives the warrior spirit in our military.”
Initially, the Air Force paused the NGAD program in May 2024 to reassess strategic needs. After extensive collaboration with defense industries and advancing critical technologies, the program is now back on track.
Key Features of the F-47:
Next-generation stealth design
Advanced sensor fusion system
Long-range precision strike capability
Modular and upgradeable architecture
Capable of flying undetected in highly contested environments
The F-47 will be the centerpiece of the NGAD family of systems, designed to operate seamlessly alongside Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) — unmanned aerial vehicles that can support manned fighters in complex missions.
According to Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin-Unveils,
“With the F-47 as our crown jewel, we’re building a future-proof platform that adapts to new technologies and threats. This is about delivering more lethality and securing air dominance for generations.”
Over the last five years, experimental X-planes under the Air Force and DARPA partnership have logged hundreds of flight hours — testing stealth, autonomous systems, and long-range capabilities, laying the groundwork for the F-47.
Trump concluded-Unveils,
“These magnificent jets will be airborne soon, hopefully during my administration. Production is ready, facilities are built — the F-47 ensures that America continues to dominate the skies.”
The contract covers engineering, manufacturing, integration, and testing — producing a limited number of test aircraft initially. Low-rate production options are also included in the agreement.
Final decisions on deployment bases and program expansion will follow in the coming years, as the F-47 moves closer to full operational status.
