Zelenskyy Thanks U.S. for Continued Support, Urges Strong Security Guarantees for Peace
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked the United States for its unwavering support and emphasized that lasting peace in Ukraine depends on solid security guarantees. His comments come after a week of intense diplomacy aimed at ending Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy described this diplomatic outreach as just the beginning of a longer process. He stated, “There will be numerous meetings and joint efforts in the coming days and weeks. Together, Ukraine, Europe, and America will work toward peace.” Zelenskyy thanks US support for peace .
Meanwhile, the Kremlin voiced concerns about the urgency of reaching a peace agreement. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov remarked, “Zelenskyy doesn’t want peace; he needs to be pushed toward it.” Russian officials continue to blame Kyiv for the war, despite Russia’s actions that sparked the conflict over three years ago.
In response to continued Russian missile and drone strikes, Zelenskyy condemned Moscow’s attacks on civilians. “Russia doesn’t want peace; it continues its aerial terror. The world must unite to stop this,” he said.
Zelenskyy is also engaging with European leaders. At a summit in London, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated the need for ongoing support for Ukraine. He revealed that the U.K. and France would collaborate with Ukraine to draft a peace plan, which will be presented to the U.S. Strong backing from America, according to Starmer, is essential for a successful peace agreement.
Despite the ongoing conflict, Zelenskyy remains firm on the need for security guarantees. “We want peace, but for it to be lasting, we need real security guarantees,” he added.
